Summary :
Marine, lake and continental sediments allow us to reconstruct the history of past environments and climates and to establish precise chronologies for these variations. These reconstructions and their chronology are based on geochemical or statistical analyses of different components of these sediments. In order to improve these reconstructions and to optimize the use of samples from these sedimentary archives, it is necessary to separate the different fractions. This separation requires wet sieving to preserve the fragile components of these sediments (foraminifera, radiolarians, volcanic glass…).
We propose for this project to automate the sieving in wet phase. The aim is to develop an automatic sieving line that will allow to sieve 6 to 8 samples in parallel. The development of this instrumentation will benefit in particular from the possibilities of realization of the platform PANOPLY, platform leaned to the laboratories LSCE and GEOPS.
