Summary :

The summer school “Scientific knowledge for the conservation of heritage stones” associated with the STONE 2025 conference aims to train young scientists or professionals in issues related to the alteration, restoration and conservation of heritage stones, which will also be addressed in the thematic sessions at the STONE 2025 conference, being closely associated with it:

  1. Characterization and investigation methods
  2. Resilient and sustainable conservation
  3. Holistic approach to the conservation of built heritage
  4. Digitization and AI in stone conservation
  5. Climate change and risk assessment
  6. Alteration mechanisms and conservation treatments

Only the session “Digitization and AI in the conservation of stone” will not be covered in its entirety during the summer school because it is too complex to present over a limited period of time of half a day. The courses will be given by the guest speakers at the congress who are international experts in the different disciplines. The concepts covered during the conferences will be applied during practical workshops carried out on heritage buildings in Cergy-Pontoise. These workshops will be divided into a part conducted in the field, and a part of the analysis of information and data in the classroom. The target audience is made up of students and young professionals in “heritage materials” (physico-chemistry, geology, civil engineering), conservation sciences, archaeology, restoration, etc. The interest is to promote synergy between the participants so that each one brings his or her skills and knowledge to the resolution of a project. This work will be carried out in groups. As well as disseminated knowledge, one of the objectives is to set up a network that will be important in the professional lives of the participants.
